Telfair Museums

One ticket covers three different visits. Choose the site first; the Owens-Thomas tour time is the only part that should set the day's route.

Telfair's $30 pass covers all three museum sites for seven days, which is a reason not to rush them in one afternoon. Jepson Center and Telfair Academy are next-door art museums you walk through at your own pace; Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters is a guided visit with a small group limit, about seven minutes away on foot.

Ticket prices and hours

The museum currently lists the seven-day pass at $30 for adults, $27 for seniors age 65 and older, $27 for active military with ID, $20 for students age 13–25 with ID, $10 for children age 6–12 and free for age 5 and under. All three sites list 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and close Monday. Holiday exceptions and exhibition work can change that pattern, so check the current museum page.

Reserve Owens-Thomas before arranging the walk

The site-specific Owens-Thomas FAQ says visitors may select a day and time online up to four weeks ahead, space permitting. Everyone must still check in at the ticket booth. Guided visits typically last 45–60 minutes, leave at 15-minute intervals and hold up to 12 people. The general hours page still describes tours as first-come, so I would follow the more specific booking FAQ and reserve a time whenever Owens-Thomas is the reason for buying the pass.

Access differs among the three buildings

The Owens-Thomas main house retains original stairs and has no elevator. Telfair identifies ramped entrances at the Orientation Gallery and Slave Quarters, but those features do not provide access to every room in the house. Ask the museum directly about access at Jepson and the Academy; one building's details do not carry over to the others.

Use the seven days instead of forcing one afternoon

Jepson and Telfair Academy are about a minute apart. Telfair puts Owens-Thomas about seven minutes away on foot. Robinson garage is next to the first pair; State Street garage is across the square from Owens-Thomas. My first choice is Owens-Thomas at its reserved time, then one of the art museums. Use the pass again later if the trip has room.

My first-visit combination

Reserve Owens-Thomas, then add Telfair Academy for the shortest contrast between architecture, interpreted history and art. Choose Jepson instead when current exhibitions or the Children's Art Museum are the priority.
